What are the most common energy efficiency improvements?
The energy efficiency of a home is affected by three primary factors: heat transferring into or out of your home, air leakage in the HVAC ductwork, and proper functioning of the HVAC system. Following are some of the most common energy efficiency improvements:
- Adding Insulation: Many older homes are not well-insulated; some have no insulation at all. Properly installed insulation in attics provides for more even temperatures throughout the house and results in a quieter, more comfortable living environment that is easier to heat and cool. Insulating ductwork in attics and adding insulation to crawlspaces can also help to ensure that your home will be more comfortable.
- Improving Heating and Cooling Systems: Proper functioning of the home’s HVAC system is a key component in a home’s energy efficiency. Generally, as much as half of the energy used in the home goes to heating and cooling. Getting an HVAC tune-up or replacing your old system with a more efficient one can help you save money and be more comfortable.
- Sealing Air Leaks: Sealing air leaks around windows, doors, recessed can lights, chimneys, ceilings, and electrical outlets is an easy way to improve energy efficiency. Sealing air leaks may also improve your home’s comfort by lowering humidity in the home.
- Sealing Ductwork: Many homes have leaky ductwork and poor airflow, resulting in stuffy, humid, or otherwise uncomfortable rooms. Sealing your home’s ducts and balancing the duct system to optimize airflow to all rooms can help improve your comfort and the ability of your HVAC system to work efficiently.
How much will the improvements cost?
The cost of energy efficiency upgrades varies by the type of improvement being made and the contractor. Your contractor or the CPS Energy energy efficiency team can help you determine solutions that will help you achieve the most energy savings and will direct you to the incentives that CPS Energy offers.
Who can perform the work?
For HVAC installation projects, work can be performed by any contractor licensed within the State of Texas. Customers can find a list of contractors that have registered as CPS Energy Trade Allies and participated in the CPS Energy Home Energy Program by using the "Find a Contractor" link on the CPS Energy website.

What if my contractor is not registered as a CPSE Trade Ally?
Installing contractors do not have to be part of the CPSE Trade Ally Network to participate in the program, but ALL contractors must be licensed in the State of Texas and be able to provide their license number on the rebate paperwork. Can I receive multiple incentives?
You may receive multiple incentives for more than one installation of the same type of measure. For example, a home may have two water heaters.
Who is eligible for incentives?
Incentives are available for any single-family, duplex, tri-plex, or four-plex dwelling units served by a CPS Energy electric meter. Condominiums must be individually metered. Tenant-occupied dwellings are eligible. The incentive payment will be made out in the name listed on the CPSE Account for the property. If the incentive payment should be paid to a third party (i.e., landlord, contractor), then the payment release authorization section on the CPSE Home Energy Rebate Application must be filled out and signed. Manufactured and mobile homes from which mobility devices have been removed may be eligible for incentives.
What support can I expect from CPS Energy?
A CPS Energy energy efficiency team will provide you with support from submitting your initial application to the receipt of your incentive. We are dedicated to ensuring that your experience in CPS Energy’s Save Now Residential Programs is positive and beneficial.
When will I receive my incentive check?
Your incentive check will be mailed directly to you approximately 8-12 weeks after final paperwork submission.
How long will incentives be offered?
The pathway incentives are available until January 31, 2025; this website will announce if a pathway incentive ceases to be available. Incentives are first come, first served. Rebate amounts and offerings are subject to change or termination without notice at the discretion of CPS Energy.
